About Ren

Ren, an Arizona native, has over 40 years of playing experience and over 20 years of teaching experience. He specializes in beginner golfers. Ren learned the game of golf from Arch Watkins, childhood instructor to PGA Tour player Billy Mayfair. Arch emphasized basic fundamentals and solid mechanics, which Ren has carried over into his teaching philosophy.

Ren started teaching golf in the Bay Area at Copeland Sports where he also managed the golf shop. While working for Copeland, he also learned custom club fitting and club making. Since then, his list of credentials has grown to include: Lead Golf Instructor for the UC Berkeley Summer Sports Camps; Assistant Pro at both Harding Park Golf Course and Marin Country Club. He was also the lead instructor at Fremont from 2006 – 2016 and has been teaching at Mission Hills Golf Course since 2019. He was also the golf coach at Moreau Catholic High School from 2014-2016. As Native Mandarin Speaker, he can also teach in Mandarin if necessary. He is an active member of the PGA of America since 2011.

Ren’s teaching philosophy looks at each golfer as an individual and each swing as being unique. You will notice a difference from your very first lesson, which is truly an interactive and collaborative experience. Ren believes in listening to his students and finding the fundamental as well as the “mental” barriers.

His methodology is following in the footsteps of Instructor Alex Murray and Gary Edwin, who has produced PGA Tour winners Peter Lonard, Rod Pampling and Maverick McNealy. Additional information about Gary can be found at www.garyedwin.com
